June 10, 1901

It is located near today’s 1 Cambridge Street. The largest electric railway terminal in the world at the time, it is initially the northern terminus of what is called the Main Line. Construction began on March 30, 1899. The line is extended to Everett on March 15, 1919, and to Malden in 1975. The station is closed when the line is replaced by the New Orange Line on December 27, 1975.
